Dec 21-23, 2009 – Amsterdam Airport, Netherlands
It snowed in Amsterdam for the first time in something like 10 years. So all flights were cancelled as they don’t have plows. This place was a mess. We stood in queue for two days. Unfortunately, this caused us to miss the couple of days that we had planned to spend in Marrakech, Morocco.
The lines (queues) were so long that the AMS airport had people walking around handing out water.
Dec 26, 2009 – Madrid, Spain
To get out of Amsterdam to Spain, we had to fly to Barcelona instead of Madrid. Of course our luggage was lost, so we took the train directly to Madrid and asked the airline to send our luggage there. Our luggage did not show up until right before we were supposed to pick up our rental car and begin our drive south.
We spent a couple of days in Madrid with no luggage and head colds. So we didn’t get to see much of the city before we were scheduled to move on.
